To be a coach at the Upper Dauphin Area School District, individuals must go through an application process (including applicable clearances), a selection and hiring process and an orientation program (new head coaches).
To apply for a head coaching position at Upper Dauphin Area, the candidate must submit a cover letter, resume, three letters of recommendation and clearance to Brent E. Bell, Athletic Director, Upper Dauphin Area School District, 220 N Church Street, Elizabethville, PA 17023. Applicants for assistant coaching positions must submit a cover letter and resume along with three references to the above address.
After submission of the completed applications for each position by the due date, the applications will be reviewed by a committee that includes, at a minimum, the Athletic Director and a current head coach from within the Upper Dauphin Area School District. Candidates that are selected for an interview will be contacted and an interview will be scheduled and conducted. After all interviews (and possible subsequent interviews) are conducted, the committee will select an individual to recommend to the school board for the position. Only after a candidate is approved by the school board will the other canidates be notified of the selection.
The clearances required for coaching positions are as follows:
Act 34 - The Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records Check: The PA State Police use a web-based computer application for which you must use a credit card to pay the fee. The result will not be mailed. You must return to the ePatch site and print your criminal history check results.
Act 151 - Department of Human Services Child Abuse Report: Under Child Welfare Portal click on create a new account. Follow the steps to create a new account. You will receive an email with your password. Follow the Directions to complete your request. You can request your certificate by mail. Please provide your original certificate to the District Office (a copy will be made and your original certificate will be given back to you)
Act 114 - FBI Criminal History Report: Applicants MUST register prior to going to an approved fingerprint site (locations) To register, call Cogent at 888-439-2486 or go to their Web site and register online. After fingerprinting is complete, you must present the confirmation page (showing your Registration ID#) to the Superintendent's Office so your FBI results can be accessed via the Cogent eletronic system.
